VOCATION

          WHO ARE WE?

          WHY ARE WE?

          HOW ARE WE TO LIVE?

We are women who live out our baptismal promises in this faith community and whose lives are guided by the Gospel and the Rule of St. Benedict. Benedict says " Listen with the ear of your heart." (RB Prol.)

Sister ClaudiaGrowing, changing, struggling, daring...we share in Christian Community with friends and associates, through prayer and dialogue, our times of delight and times of pain. We share with others an ecumenical hospitality and we realize that we often learn most from those we seek to serve.

Our purpose is to live a viable monastic life-style and to be a Benedictine presence among the people on Vancouver Island. Each sister of the House of Bread offers a unique expression of that presence in her particular work.

Our Benedictine spirituality calls us to an on-going conversion, life long growth and openness to growing in love. We need the community support, challenge, wisdom and humor of each other to deepen our faith and our love. We grow in respect and love for self, for others, for our environment, and for the God who has loved us with an everlasting love.

HOW DO YOU HEAR GOD’S CALL?

"Today, if you hear God’s voice..." (RB Prologue)

We invite you to consider contacting our Vocation Director, making a visit to the monastery, or attending a monastic weekend held once or twice a year.

Our Monastic weekends include sharing with community on topics such as: "The Word of God", "Seeking God", "Uniqueness of Religious Communities in the Church Today", "Benedictine Roots" and "Koinonia, Cenobitic Community, and the House of Bread Community".
