OBLATES

ChurchOblates of St. Benedict are Christian women and men who associate themselves formally with a particular Benedictine community while continuing to live in their own homes and communities. They commit themselves by a promise to share the Benedictine way of life and monastic values.

Oblates "Daily seek God" through study, prayer and conversion of life. They develop a love and reverence for prayerful reflection on the "Word of God" in scriptural and other sources of spiritual reading. (Lectio Divina) As possible they include praying the Liturgy of the Hours. They receive spiritual strength and inspiration from the Benedictine way of life from the Benedictine community to which they are attached. They participate in the service of God through works of hospitality, charity and justice and carry monastic values into the world by applying the teachings of the Rule of St. Benedict in daily life.

Oblates are encouraged to attend Oblate Sundays, held three times a year. The Sundays include teachings on the Rule of Benedict and time for visiting with the Benedictine Community and other Oblates. Oblates are also encouraged to attend the annual Oblate retreat and special community celebrations.
